What is the Spanish flood:
LATEST UPDATE ON FLOOD IN VALENCIA : As we already know the heavy downpour due to what Spanish scientists call a “gota fría” caused a massive flood in Valencia and Malaga regions in eastern part of Spain. The floods took 158 lives from the residents and the number may sadly increase. although Valencia has been seeing heavy rain these past 28 days making people struck in their homes and basements.
Valencian Flood Recovery:
Nearly 500 soldiers are deploying in the affected areas along with ministry defence of 1700. as of Thursday its said that the resque team has reached all areas of flooding. The government marked areas near Valencia as Heavy rainfall alert, as there is a chance for potential 8 inches of rain. since over a 100 people are dead the government has took this very seriously as a top operation.
Cause of Valencia flood:
Climate change is the “most likely explanation” for the intensity of the downpours, according to a preliminary rapid analysis by scientists from the World Weather Attribution initiative. They found global warming, driven by fossil fuel pollution, made the torrential rainfall that hit Spain about 12% heavier and twice as likely.
“In the context of climate change, these types of intense and exceptional rare rainfall events are going to become more frequent and more intense and, therefore, destructive,” said Ernesto Rodríguez Camino, senior state meteorologist and a member of the Spanish Meteorological Association.
Valencia flood compared with other floods:
This is the most deadly flood in a decade of Spanish weather.
In 1959, 144 people will killed by a flood in the Spanish village of Ribadelago . that disaster was caused by the failure of a dam, releasing water from the Vega de Tera reservoir and not a natural event.
The last comparable natural disaster was in 1996, when floods killed 87 people near the town of Biescas in the Pyrenees mountains.
